European tech M&A deals double in 2016

The value of European technology M&A deals more than doubled in 2016 to $127.2 billion, says M&A specialist Magister Advisors.
The big deals were the takeovers of ARM, Supercell and NXP totalling $80 billion.
There are currently around 20 Unicorns in Europe. Five years ago there were fewer than ten.
Against the backdrop of anaemic EU growth rates, still a fraction of US growth, the largest 100 private tech companies are achieving growth rates of 20%+, often much more than that.
Asian investors spent more than $55 billion in Europe in 2016.
Three market sectors are in the ascendancy in Europe: Payments, Analytics software and AI. AI (pass the acquisitions of Swiftkey, Magic Pony, FinTech saw financings for Kreditech, Nutmeg and Gaming deals included the acquisitions of SuperCell, King and Inspired Gaming.
