Chips&Media Launches Cframe60: A Lossless & Lossy frame Compression Standalone HW IP

Chips&Media is announcing that CFrame60 will be delivered to market as an independent product; new HW core based on compression/decompression technology to contribute performance, DRAM bandwidth, and power efficiency within various multimedia applications.

• CFrame60, the independent HW IP, for DRAM bandwidth reduction to improve performance and power efficiency, is now in Chips&Media's roadmap for the commercialization. This decision is to expand the benefit of CFrame60 technology from IP level to application level.
• DRAM bandwidth is a well-known issue that impacts performance and power in multi-media applications. In other words, high DRAM bandwidth that hurts the performance and power consumption is usually received as a disadvantage of HW platform, even at end device.
• Chips&Media has resolved this problem by advanced compression/decompression technology and applied it to WAVE series, the legendary HW video CODEC IP from Chips&Media, many years. As one of key components, CFrame60 contributes WAVE series by high performance as well as low power consumption through significant DRAM bandwidth reduction. To enable the same benefit even for data communication over DRAM between various IP modules in multimedia applications, CFrame60 is now available as an independent HW with new and re-designed compression/decompression technologies.

Considering the increase of resolution such as 4K, 8K, and even 12K in imaging applications, especially in high-end edge devices, Chips&Media expects CFrame60 as independent HW IP will deliver more noticeable benefits.
