Chips&Media is now announcing that Advanced Professional Video CODEC development has been completed as committed to the ecosystem, and its final RTL is ready to be deployed to the market. The product name is WAVE-P, the world-first APV CODEC as an independent HW IP.

As known to video industry, Advanced Professional Video, APV, CODEC is a next generation of video compression & decompression tool and key technology for prosumers who do not want to compromise on quality while enjoying the convenience of video capture and edit experience using edge devices such as smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.

APV CODEC has been initiated by Samsung and has been driven by key Android leads such as Google and Qualcomm together with Chips&Media. The standard is now public as part of IETF and open source is available to industry through ASWF. WAVE-P, the world-first APV HW CODEC IP by Chips&Media, works with up to 10- and 12- bit YUV in 420,422&444 format to ensure extreme visual quality, and single core at 500Mhz can deliver 8K30fps performance. Higher performance like 8K60fps, even 8K120fps can be achievable by multi-core at competitive area cost and power consumption.
